The Senedd - National Assembly for Wales building

Background
Situated on the waterfront at Cardiff docks the Senedd was opened in 2006 and houses the National Assembly for Wales’ debating chamber and Committee Rooms.
Client Objective
The design brief requirements for the building were set to ensure that it met and exceeded the Assembly’s constitutional requirements for sustainable development and current good practice. They included the need to minimise energy consumption and waste.
Wherever possible the contractor, Taylor Woodrow and their design team, undertook to reduce demand for resources, energy, water and materials.
System Uvex Response
System Uvex installed a rainwater harvesting system to collect water from the roof and reuse it within the building. Water is collected from the main roofs and stored in two 50,000-litre tanks for use in the building. It provides the primary supply of water for flushing the toilets, irrigation and maintenance.
The Senedd achieved an “Excellent” certification, the highest ever awarded in Wales, under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).

Background
Tesco have a strong commitment, emanating at Board level, to sustaining and protecting the environment and reducing their environmental impact wherever possible.
Client Objective
Reduction of water consumption is just one of the ways in which Tesco works to minimise its effect on the environment. They have invested substantially in rainwater recovery systems.
System Uvex Response
System Uvex has installed a rainwater harvesting system in the Tesco Distribution Centre in Peterborough.
The system comprises a RHW30000BWB. Water is collected from the extensive roof area, treated with UV and stored in three cooling towers for use in the chill and cold storage facilities when required.
300,000 litres of water are processed every four hours and reused in the make-up to the cooling towers and the tray wash facility with the remainder for domestic purposes.
The benefits to Tesco include reduced water costs, a reduction in water treatment costs, a reduction in energy costs and a cleaner, greener image.
