Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA)

Businesses can claim 100% first-year capital allowances on investment in designated water-saving plant and machinery in the year in which the expenditure is incurred.
Evaporative cooling
A method of cooling where there is an exchange of latent heat from water in the form of sprays, jets or wetted material.
HSC: L8 - Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and Guidance:
"Legionnaires' disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems". Document published by the Health and Safety Executive to provide organisations with practical advice on how they can control Legionella bacteria and comply with the health and safety legislation in the UK.
Legionnaires disease
Legionnaires disease is a form of pneumonia caused by a bacterium known as Legionella. It was named after an outbreak at a convention of the American Legion in Philadelphia in 1976. 29 members died from the infection. The bacterium breeds in warm, moist conditions, with an incubation period of between two to ten days. In the majority of outbreaks the source of infection is the water or air-conditioning system within a public building.
Rainwater harvesting
The collection of rainwater for reuse. In the majority of situations the rainwater is captured in roof guttering and directed via a down pipe to a rainwater collection tank.
Stormwater discharge
The rainfall that does not infiltrate into the ground or evaporate because of the impervious nature of the land surfaces. The rainwater flows onto adjacent land or water areas and is routed into drain or sewer systems.
UV water treatment
The use of ultra violet light to destroy the DNA of potentially damaging micro-organisms in water, including bacteria and viruses, rendering them harmless.
Water Feature
Any natural or artificial body of water that can be still or moving.
Water Technology List
List of products that can help organisations use water more sustainably and make improvements in water quality. The list has been developed and managed by DEFRA and the Inland Revenue in partnership with Envirowise. Products on the list are eligible for Enhanced Capital Allowances. (ECA)
